This free tutorial has been designed especially for first-time winemakers who have little or no experience in wine making and is based on wine kits produced by Mosti Mondiale. Other kits are similar basically the same, but always read the instructions that come with your kit! From time to time, manufacturers will change their instructions or you may have a specialty kit. So, please follow the instructions that come with your kit.
Keep in mind that this tutorial is designed to assist you though your first several kits. As you progress as a wine maker, you will find alternative ways to accomplish many of the tasks outlined below. Never feel that this tutorial is the ONLY way to make good wine. Feel free to experiment and find the methods that work best for you.
We have divided the process into 5 simple steps, but the first thing you need to understand is that you must clean AND sanitize EVERYTHING that touches your wine. Let me repeat this. CLEAN AND SANITIZE EVERYTHING THAT TOUCHES YOUR WINE. I cannot stress this point enough; whether you are making wine from a kit or from fresh ingredients, you have to clean AND sanitize. It is important to understand the difference.
Cleaning involves removing all of the visible dirt and debris. Sanitizing involves killing bacteria that can harm your wine. The alcohol in the wine will kill the bacteria that could harm you, but not all of the bacteria that could harm your wine.
